Hyaluronic acid: injectable fillers

The aging process at facial level manifests with pronounced expression lines around the eyes, the mouth, between the eyebrows, on the corners of the mouth or on the nasolabial groove.  In addition, there is a loss of volume in the lips and cheeks.

Facial fillers are very varied but they all form part of a simple, quick and relatively painless method which is undertaken via infiltrations, generally of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the human body and which contributes towards bringing hydration and volume to the skin.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are safe, simple and produce immediate effects which the patient can appreciate immediately.

Treatment with hyaluronic acid

Prior to beginning treatment with hyaluronic acid, in-depth cleaning of the facial area to be treated must be undertaken.  Despite being relatively painless, to avoid discomfort, an anaesthetic cream or local cold compress can be applied on the area to be treated. Hyaluronic acid is deposited in the wrinkles through small infiltrations which immediately fill the folds in the skin.  Once the treatment has been finished, you can return to normal activity immediately.

Results of treatment with hyaluronic acid

The cosmetic results of hyaluronic acid filler implants are immediate as the substance injected fills the wrinkles.  The effects of the hyaluronic acid tend to last some 9-12 months depending on age, the area injected, skin quality, lifestyle… This is why they tend to be performed approximately once a year.

Does it require anaesthetic?

No, it is not necessary, but to minimise discomfort an anaesthetic cream or local cold compress can be applied to the area to be treated prior to beginning the session.

Do I need to take any precautions afterwards?

It is not advisable to massage the treated area.  It is advisable to use sun protection in the event of sunbathing.

You can go to work and lead a normal life immediately after the session.

Will there be any side effects?

After undergoing treatment with hyaluronic acid there may temporarily be a slight reddening, swelling or small haematoma in the injected area which can be perfectly disguised with make-up.

How long do the effects last?

Up to a year, although it depends on age, the area injected, skin quality, lifestyle….
